This race is also known as the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race or simply the Indy 500. It started as an annual automobile race held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS), a 2.5 mile(4km) oval circuit in Speedway, Indiana, U.S.
The event is conventionally dated on the Memorial Day weekend, or the last weekend of May. It is a part of the IndyCar Series, which is stated as the top level of American Championship Car racing, an open-wheel and open-cockpit formula natively known as the “ Indy Car Racing”.
The Indianapolis racing track was given a nickname, the “Brickyard”, as the racing street was paved in brick dating to 1909. Still today, one yard of brick remains exposed at the start and finish line.
